By Adib ZalkapliKUALA LUMPUR, May 19 – Less than a year after the collapse of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s plan to take over the federal government, PAS is now seeking to get physically closer to the federal capital on its own.
Yesterday, party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang launched a fund-raising campaign at the Palace of the Golden Horses here for the construction of a new RM27 million party complex situated just 10 minutes’ drive from Putrajaya.
The closed-door event was attended only by national party leaders and selected members of the local business community and they were given a ten minute briefing on the project.
“We have collected more than half a million ringgit yesterday and we hope to be able to complete the project within two years,” said party treasurer Dr Hatta Ramli.
“We have been planning to have our own facility in newly developed areas such as Putajaya or Bangi and we hope members will help us to achieve our target,” he told The Malaysian Insider.
The complex, to be built on a 17 acre plot of land in Sepang, will house a convention centre that can accommodate up to 8,000 people, business centres, private residences, mosques and a training centre.
The project committee is chaired by party vice-president Datuk Husam Musa who also oversaw the relocation of the PAS headquarters from Gombak to the city centre two years ago.
